With 305 km of slopes, 200 km of variations and 87 modern lifts in Tyrol and Vorarlberg, Arlberg is one of the world's top ski resorts. From this winter onward, it's Austria's largest interconnected ski area – and the fifth largest in the world. The first skiing tourists to ascend Arlberg in 1885 had to walk up the slopes, as did Hannes Schneider, who founded the first ski school in Austria in Arlberg in 1928 – and is now regarded as the "Godfather" of skiing in Arlberg. The first surface lift in Austria was built in Zürs in 1936. And a year later in 1937, the Galzigbahn showed that we do not shy away from technical pioneering at the Arlberg.
